Light wins first career sprint car victory at Lawrenceburg Speedway

8.04.07 by Ray Productions

Jimmy Light of West Springfield, PA picked up his first career sprint car win Saturday night, August 4, 2007 for Coke/Servicemen and Women Night at Lawrenceburg Speedway in Lawrenceburg, IN.  Light was on a mission from the get-go starting in ninth place and charging his way to the front in a hurry.

A red flag was thrown on lap 5 for the second of three times, this time involving a flip by Bill Rose and Brett Burdett.  On the restart, Light was in 3rd place behind race leader, Jake Martens and 2nd place, Tim Spindler.  By lap 9, Light took the lead and checked out from the rest of the field and held a large gap over Spindler and Shane Hollingsworth.

“I didn’t know I had such a huge lead.  I thought someone was right on me the whole race so I was driving real hard,” said Light.  “I knew I had to be on my game with all the restarts we had throughout the race, and the tough guys I had behind me.”

With only 3 laps to go, Light saw the last red flag of the night for a flip on the backstretch, but the race would again be slowed for a spin in turn 4 just after the white flag was thrown.  On the restart, the Lawrenceburg Speedway flag man showed the green and white flag at the same time.  Light pulled away again on the restart to take home the win for his team in his No. 23 Competition Welding/J&D Performance sprint car.

“I am just so excited to get this first win, finally, for my team and for my family,” said Light in victory lane.  “I couldn’t do any of this without my mom and dad, I want to thank them.  This makes all our hard work worth it.”
